Today we are going to talk about this topic that is so well known by many, but there is still an immense range of people who are still laymen when it comes to Science Fiction. So we decided to bring a foreseen explanation - however very instructive - on this topic and some of the main works.

Inside the history of science fiction
This genre embraces themes with fiction/imagination concepts, regarding the future, technology and science. It was developed in the mid-19th century, and is abbreviated as SF, FC, sci-fi or scifi, and is also known as “Literature of Project Ideas”.
Science fiction books are books that include Project Ideas such as: science and humanity. The impacts and consequences that science can bring to our world and coexistence.
And it can also cover: Aliens, space travel, time travel, robots, exploration of other planets, and also fictional planets – non-existent in our galaxy. These readings can open up big questions for readers. Open a world full of imaginations, questions, consciousness, and others.
The work in science fiction that was considered the starting point was “Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus” written by Mary Shelley in 1817. And it tells the story of a scientist who tries to recreate life based on studies by alchemists who preceded it. Mary is considered the mother of science fiction.
Obviously there are several other works where civilizations are narrated that use technologies that would be invented more like submarines, planes, among other things. Which end up not fitting into the science fiction genre, works written by Edgar Allan Poe, Horace Walpolle, and Francis Bacon's Nova Atlântida written in 1926.
After Mary Shelley, Jules Verne (1828-1905) emerged who brings in his works trips to the moon, the center of the Earth and the bottom of the oceans. And then HG Wells (1866-1946) came, with time travel, invisible men, and extraterrestrial invasions.
Sci-Fi Classifications
Isaac Asimov published a study in which it classified the history of science fiction into three periods:
- Classical era - until 1926;
- It was Gernsback - 1926 to 1938;
- Third era – 1938 to present day.
However, this classification is not restricted to literary periods but also covers the specialized magazines that emerged from the Gernsback Era and the TV and film adaptations that emerged in the Third Era.

1984 by George Orwell

| Winston, hero of 1984, George Orwell's last novel, lives trapped in the totalitarian gear of a society completely dominated by the State.
